Nappy Cake - No need to bake!!!!!!!!!!!

I am off to a baby shower tomorrow...I was MC (Mistress of ceremony) at their wedding over a year ago and now there is only a month to go until their baby is born ... and yes it's a girl...having too many men in my life (I do enjoy the opposite sex BUT ) I am looking forward to every thing pink.

I made this nappy cake to take to the shower.....It took more nappies than I expected in fact a 160!! (went back to the shop twice) you need to roll up each nappy then put them into bunches of 6 with an elastic bands. Check out the youtube link to find out how to!!!
                                             http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfwaaNjxUhY
I didn't use a wooden spoon as in the youtube how to
for fixing the 3 tears together I used a large paper towel roll.
I purchased this box of toys from my niece as her princess no longer needed them and they were in           new condition and at a mate rates price.
I appliqued Missy Herring (Their nick name for their baby) onto pink ribbon
It's a bit big but they do say size is everything!!!!

Xaviers quilt and pillow for his secound birthday this post should come before the Christmas one(Did I tell you that I am new at this!!!!)

My first quilt on my own (apart from a few friends helping).... Fred ("my true north ") cut out the squares.....I just sewed... I purchased the material from The Quilters Angels Highfields http://www.quiltersangel.com.au/ without Marion's and Steff's help I would have given Xavier a handkerchief(well probable something from K Mart) I stitched in the ditch and fee motioned around the cars and road signs. It took far too long to make as I had carpal tunnel surgery on both hands during the making. Fiona http://bubzrugz.blogspot.com/ offered to finish it off for me((she good value), but with a bottle of red wine in hand and a change in my attitude and a few pain killers it's finished. I have to admit I do love it. Thanks to every one who help me.

Play safe tonight!!! Happy New Year

"Another fresh new year is here...
Another year to live!
To banish worry, doubt, and fear,
To love and laugh and give!
This bright new year is given me
To live each day with zest...
To daily grow and try to be
My highest and my best!
I have the opportunity
Once more to right some wrongs,
To pray for peace, to plant a tree,
And sing more joyful songs!"

Come into my office

Hi, one of the drawbacks of living in a motor home is that you are only a fat quarter away from each other at any given time!!! At 9.30 last night Fred looks at me and said “Are you still doing that blog stuff? you’re going to need a bigger office”. If my mobile phone rings in the evening when he watching TV (which it always does as I am a talker) Fred says are you going to take that call in your office!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Fred made the sign!!!
Thanks to all you bloggers for the how to lessons much appreciated.
Now back to the office Cheers Helen

The poor man has a quilter for a wife, but I bet she enjoys her life!!!!!!

She Learned to Quilt on MONDAY.
Her stitches all were fine
She forgot to make us dinner
So we all went out to dine

She quilted miniatures on TUESDAY
she says they are a must
They really were quite lovely
But She forgot to dust

On WEDNESDAY it was a sampler.
She says stippling's fun
What Highlights What Shadows!
But The LAUNDRY wasn’t done

Nine Patches were on Thursday
Green, Yellow, Blue and red.
I guess she really was engrossed
she never made the Bed.

It was wall hangings on Friday.
In colours she adores
It never bothered her at all
That crumbs were on the floor

I found a maid on SATURDAY
My week is now complete
My wife can quilt the hours away
The house will still be neat

Well, now it’s only SUNDAY
I think I’m about to wilt
I cursed, I raved, I ranted
Cause the Maid has learned to QUILT !

Kayos

Chaos (I used spell checker) I live in delightful chaos (no need to dust)  we live in a motor home during the week while we renovate our units.. as you can see from the photo lots of room to quilt!!! I preworn the men in my life Fred (my true north) Brett my brother in law that I am about to quilt...so if they need the bathroom now is a good time to go!!!! (their record for holding their bladders was 4 hours....but the quilt look great).
Stitching in the ditch ( I sound like an expert) this was my first go at free motioning...(not a good look)  a little boy that was effected by the floods chose this quilt for his bed. O' to see life through the eyes of a child!!!!!
BUT look what I found in the op shop for $25 an old hospital table !!! as you can see it also doubles as a computer table... I am feeling very posh!!!!. But look around the Kayos is still there... today I am making shower curtains and sewing   "Neoprene"(soft rubber) on the bottom to act as a weight ,dam and to prevent the mould. Wish I could tell you I was sewing an award winning quilt for the Queen!!!!! but that's next week.
I am looking for white "Neoprene" 50ml wide 1.5 ml thick can only purchase black here in OZ any suggestion??? Cheers Helen

Sew for fun "Guilt Free"

Dust if you must

Dust if you must, but wouldn't it be better To paint a picture or write a letter, Bake a cake or plant a seed. Ponder the difference between want and need. Dust if you must, but there's not much time, With rivers to swim and mountains to climb, Music to hear and books to read, Friends to cherish and life to lead. Dust if you must, but the world's out there With the sun in your eyes, the wind in your hair, A flutter of snow, a shower of rain. This day will not come around again. Dust if you must, but bear in mind, Old age will come and it's not kind. And when you go and go you must, You, yourself, will make more dust.

Don't know who wrote this poem but I suspect a women with a clear vision to live life to the fullest as my dad would say "Life is not a dummy run"
